The Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, commonly known as St. Kitts and Nevis, is a sovereign nation comprised of two islands, the larger of which, St. Kitts, hosts the small capital Basseterre. The islands achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1983 and the country maintains Elizabeth II as queen and head of state. As such, St. Kitts and Nevis is member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and the Organization of American States (OAS).
Located in the Eastern Caribbean approximately three hours south of Miami by air, and bordered to the east and northeast by Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis is known for its mountains, tropical rainforest, beaches, and year- round sunny climate, all of which have made St. Kitts and Nevis a popular destination with tourists and investors alike and helped the country to maintain interest in the oldest and most successful citizenship-by-investment program in the world.
